Strategic Doing gives you a practical, structured way to bring people together, identify what you can do with the assets you already have, agree what matters most, and move into action quickly.

Our 2.5-Day Certified Practitioner Training gives you the knowledge, tools and practical experience to use Strategic Doing in your own organisation, community or collaborative initiatives.

Small cohort. Practical learning. Internationally recognised methodology.

Strategy is easy to talk about. Action is harder.

Many of today's challenges cannot be solved by one person or organisation.

They require people with different resources, knowledge, relationships and perspectives to work together.

But collaboration can easily become:

  • lots of discussion with limited action

  • meetings without clear outcomes

  • ambitious plans nobody has the capacity to deliver

  • dependence on funding or resources you don't currently have

  • unclear ownership

  • enthusiasm that disappears between meetings.

Strategic Doing provides a different way of working.

Instead of starting with everything you don't have, it starts with the assets already available within the group and asks:

What could we do together?

Then it provides a disciplined process for moving from possibility to priorities, action and measurable progress.

What is Strategic Doing?

Strategic Doing is a practical approach to strategy and collaboration designed for complex environments where no single person or organisation has all the authority, resources or knowledge required to solve the problem.

Rather than spending months developing a traditional strategic plan, Strategic Doing helps groups answer four questions:

What could we do together?

Discover opportunities by identifying and connecting the assets already available within the group.

What should we do together?

Evaluate opportunities and agree where collective effort will create the greatest value.

What will we do together?

Define a clear outcome, identify a practical pathway and establish who will take responsibility for moving it forward.

When will we meet again?

Build accountability, learning and momentum through short action cycles and regular 30/30 meetings.

The result is strategy that moves into action.

Who is Practitioner Training for?

This course is designed for people who need to lead, facilitate or participate in collaborative work.

It is particularly relevant for:

Leaders and senior managers
who need to move strategy from planning into implementation.

Local and central government professionals
working across organisations, communities or complex policy challenges.

Economic and regional development practitioners
bringing businesses, government, communities and other organisations together around shared opportunities.

Community and social-sector leaders
working on issues that cannot be addressed by one organisation alone.

Consultants and facilitators
looking for a rigorous, repeatable methodology for collaborative strategy and action.

Project and programme leaders
responsible for initiatives requiring cooperation across teams or organisational boundaries.

You don't need to be a professional facilitator.

You do need to be interested in helping groups move from talking to doing.

What you'll be able to do

By the end of the 2.5 days, you'll be equipped to:

  • frame complex challenges in ways that enable collaboration

  • identify the assets people and organisations can contribute

  • help groups connect and leverage those assets

  • generate practical opportunities for action

  • prioritise opportunities collectively

  • define measurable outcomes

  • identify a clear pathfinder project

  • establish commitments and shared accountability

  • use 30/30 meetings to maintain momentum

  • design and facilitate Strategic Doing conversations

  • apply the methodology within your own organisation and collaborative initiatives.

But importantly, you won't just learn the theory.

You'll experience the process, practise using the tools and work through how you can apply Strategic Doing to real challenges.

What you'll learn

The training takes you through the complete Strategic Doing process and the 10 Rules of Strategic Doing.

Day 1 - Building the foundations

Understand why complex challenges require a different approach to strategy and collaboration.

You'll explore:

The Strategic Doing mindset
How strategy changes when nobody can tell everyone else what to do.

The 10 Rules of Strategic Doing
The disciplines that enable collaboration to produce results.

Framing the challenge
How to develop a question that creates possibility rather than constraining thinking.

Building safe and productive collaboration
How simple agreements create the conditions for people to work effectively together.

Asset mapping
Identifying the knowledge, relationships, resources, networks and capabilities already available.

Linking and leveraging assets
Discovering new possibilities by connecting what participants already have.

Day 2 - Moving from possibilities to action

Turn the opportunities identified on Day 1 into priorities and practical action.

You'll learn how to:

Identify opportunities
Generate possibilities from the assets within the network.

Find the Big Easy
Prioritise opportunities based on potential impact and ease of implementation.

Define an outcome
Turn an idea into something specific and measurable.

Develop a Pathfinder Project
Identify the practical first initiative that will move the group towards the outcome.

Build an action plan
Establish who will do what and by when.

Create accountability
Use 30/30 meetings to review progress, learn and determine the next actions.

Day 3 - Putting Strategic Doing into practice

The final half-day focuses on facilitation and application.

You'll explore how to design Strategic Doing sessions, work with different groups and adapt the methodology to the environments in which you work.

You'll leave with a clearer plan for how you can begin applying Strategic Doing after the course.

This isn't a course you simply sit through

Strategic Doing is learned by doing Strategic Doing.

Throughout the 2.5 days you'll work collaboratively with the other participants, use the tools yourself and experience the methodology from both participant and facilitator perspectives.

The cohort is intentionally kept relatively small so there is space for discussion, practice and feedback.

That means you leave with more than a workbook.

You leave having used the process.

Why learn Strategic Doing?

The value isn't simply knowing another strategic planning methodology.

It's having a practical process you can reach for when you hear:

“We've talked about this for years but nothing seems to happen.”

“Everyone agrees it's important, but nobody owns it.”

“We need these organisations to work together.”

“We have a strategy. We just need to implement it.”

“We don't have the resources to do everything.”

Those are exactly the environments Strategic Doing was designed for.
